Treating Insomnia & Sleeping problems with IN2MINDS Hypnotherapy & Coaching at the Vivacious Living health Centre – Applecross and Mandurah

Although many sleep problems are temporary, there are an increasing number of people who are plagued for months and years by restless nights. Many take sleep for granted, but more than one in four find sleeping difficult and lack of a good night's sleep leads to exhaustion, irritability and difficulty concentrating the next day. Often, sleeping problems can be a reflection of worries and stress occuring during the day, and these can also manifest themselves as nightmares and night terrors.

All too common is the scenario where you've had a long, hard day. You need a good, restful night's sleep. You lie in bed and close your eyes. But your mind is working overtime. The pressure you put on yourself to get to sleep increases as you become more aware of the night time hours ticking away. This is a very common experience, but hypnotherapy can help you to sleep better.

Changes in lifestyle, exercise and eating habits can greatly improve the likelihood of sleeping well ...

Tips for a Better Nights Sleep

• Don't go without sleep for a long time – keep to a regular pattern of going to bed and getting up at the same time every day, whether you are tired or not.

• Make sure that your bed and bedroom are comfortable – not too hot, not too cold, not too noisy.

• Exercise Regularly. Don't overdo it but try some regular swimming or walking.

• Cut down or stop drinking tea or coffee in the evening.

• Don't drink a lot of alcohol. It may help you fall asleep, but you will almost certainly wake up during the night.

• Don't eat or drink a lot late at night. Try to have your evening meal early rather than late. If you must, have a small carbohydrate meal before bedtime. Carbs can make us feel sleepy and relaxed.

• If you've had a bad night, resist the temptation to sleep the next day – it will make it harder to get off to sleep the following night.

• Take some time to relax properly before going to bed.

• If something is troubling you and there is nothing you can do about it right away, try writing it down before going to bed and then tell yourself to deal with it tomorrow.

• If you can't sleep, don't lie there worrying about it. Get up and do something you find relaxing. Read, watch television or listen to quiet music. After a while you should feel tired enough to go to bed again.

• Don't use the bedroom for anything other than sleep or sex. For people who work in the bedroom, they risk associating work with sleep.

Chronic Insomnia

Chronic insomnia can occur when we experience an overload of conscious stress (stresses happening in our daily lives) and unconscious stress – an inner anxiety caused by the sufferer bottling up some strong emotions in childhood. The memory of the event remains in their subconscious, even if their conscious mind has forgotten it, but continues to cause anxiety in the sufferer.
