What is the Mind?
The mind can be divided for practical purposes into three parts, the conscious mind
(analytical, rational), the sub conscious mind (emotional, reactive) and the unconscious mind (controls the body).
All levels of the mind have a protective mechanism: the conscious minds protective mechanism protects you against perceived danger; the sub conscious minds protective mechanism protects you against dangers and motivates you to full-fill your desires; the unconscious minds protective mechanism protects you against infection and uses reflexes and the critical factor protects against unnecessary changes. (see critical factor below)

All levels of the mind have a built in Protective Mechanism
The Conscious Mind – ‘The Pilot’
The conscious mind is the brain function that we generally feel most connected with, because it’s the one that we’re most aware of. It’s the place where we create the image of ourselves that we see from the inside looking out, as well as what we want other people to see from the outside looking in.
Through our conscious mind, we take in a very small amount of information about our day to day world: the people around us; what time it is; where we’re going; and how we’ll get there. We analyze and process all of that information and then make plans for what we’ll do once we get where we’re headed.
The conscious mind is very good at analyzing these few items and can be quite logical, given enough training and information.
We call this being rational. The conscious mind is capable of producing only four processes: Analysing; Rationalising; Willpower and short term memory (phone numbers, birthdays, dogs name etc). Although the conscious mind plays a huge role within ourselves it must be in harmony with the subconscious mind or the body will create an imbalance thus affecting our health.
The conscious mind makes up 10% of the complete mind
The conscious mind is also the smallest part of the mind, it makes up around 10% of the complete mind. Research shows us that the conscious mind can only indulge seven to nine bits of information before becoming confused. The brain waves slow down and the mind automatically moves into an alpha state, the subconscious mind then takes care of the situation the same familiar way it has always taken care of it (Also known as working on Auto – Pilot).
This is also why when we attempt to achieve things through our willpower we normally fail, because the willpower is in the conscious mind, after a period of time we normally fall away at our attempts to achieve our goals because it’s not programmed into the subconscious mind yet.
The Subconscious (Emotional - Reactive) Mind – ‘The Auto Pilot‘
Using a computer anology, we can think of the subconscious mind as the hard drive, doing what hard drives do: store information, unlike a computer hard drive which has limited space the subconscious mind has unlimited storage capacity.
The subconscious mind makes up around 60% of the whole mind.
The subconscious mind contains the sum of all of our experiences and beliefs from conception up until now (There is much documented evidence of this now, Age Regression has proven this on many occassions). Not only does it hold a record of the events themselves, it also keeps a cross – referenced log of how you felt and what your perception was at that time in your history. Every thought, every emotion, all of the accolades and encouragement you’ve ever received – as well as all the harsh words, criticism and betrayals are stored right there on the hard drive of your subconscious mind.
The subconscious mind is resistant to change and likes familiarity. It also generates emotional responses according to our past experiences, beliefs and expectations about the future.
The subconscious mind is the powerful goal achieving mind capable of achieving anything that you so desire and this applies to both ends of the scale as the subconscious mind has no bias. Whatever vibration your body (cells; molecules; atoms; sub atomic particles) are producing this is what will be most attracted into
your life. Example: If you produce negative thoughts within your mind thus changing your vibration, you are susceptible to attracting negative events/people on that same vibration, this is proven at the quantum level of science – If you produce positive thoughts the opposite applies in which you will attract positive events/people into your life. The subconscious mind also stores all our emotions, beliefs and memories.

The subconscious mind reacts and feels, ‘it does NOT think’
The Unconscious Mind – 'The Body Mind'
The unconscious mind isn’t really unconscious – we’re just not conscious of its ongoing work. The unconscious mind regulates the bodies response to the outside world. It regulates autonomic body functions such as breathing, heart rate, blinking and generally manages all of our organs.
It makes up around 30% of the whole mind.
The unconscious mind, creates all of the physiological phenomena associated with our emotions. When we experience the emotion called fear, it releases adrenaline into our bodies, causing us to feel all of the responses we associate with fear, such as muscle tension and increased heart rate. When we’re sad, it generates our tears and the ache in our hearts. In short, it translates our emotional states into physical feelings, which explains why we refer to our emotions as feelings.
The unconscious mind is limited to change but can learn through conditioning, it is always protecting us. Example: when something is dangerously heading towards us, we rapidly take action–that is your unconscious mind protecting the body.
The Unconscious and Subconscious Mind NEVER sleep ...
The Critical Factor - 'The Comparing Mechanism'
The critical factor is the minds protective filter. Its purpose is to protect what is familiar within the mind. When data is received through our senses it is then processed by the critical factor. It compares the data to existing programs (beliefs / perceptions) within the mind, If the data is not recognisable it will then be rejected. Now we can see that security is not that which is pleasurable, but that which is familiar.
